Abstract
The article examines the unity of artistic systems of Alexander Pushkin’s "The Captain’s Daughter" and "Eugene Onegin". The starting point of the argument are Vissarion Belinsky’s observation on the internal similarities between the works («"The Captain’s Daughter" is somewhat like "Onegin" in prose»), as well as assessments of Pavel Katenin and Petr Vyzaemsky. The article identifies the reasons for such comparison, points out that it was natural for an "old-fashion novel", rooted in "Eugene Onegin" to appear among Pushkin’s works. The researcher’s purpose is to specify the existing observations on the identity of artistic systems with additional data – such as structured system of plot reflections and same principles for organizing the internal structure of works. In particular, the article analyses the following parts: the premise, connected to the motive of "a change of place", episodes of heroine’s first appearance. Special attention is paid to the ordered system of plot repetitions in "The Captain's Daughter", which corresponds to the principle of mirror symmetry, implemented in "Eugene Onegin". The researcher gives a detailed descriptions of the cross-reflections between the situations of tabletalk, tsar’s benevolence, hero’s arrival for duty in Orenburg and Belogorsk fortress, as well as shows their purpose. The article concludes with an idea that for Pushkin’s contemporaries "The Captain’s Daughter" was «somewhat like "Onegin" in prose» not only because of the similar plotlines, but also due to the unity of internal structure of the two works.
