The purpose of the article is to identify the features of the implementation of the name change leitmotif in the works of B. Mukherjee “Jasmine”, J. Lahiri “The Namesake”, A. Adiga “The White Tiger”. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the comparative analysis of three selected works that are the most significant from the point of view of embodying this leitmotif, involved in the creation of the main characters’ images. Comparative, narrative and biographical research methods were used in the study. It is stated that in the narrative structure of the works the transformation of heroes’ personal names is an indicator of their multifaceted image, consisting of a number of hypostases marked by a separate name. This is clearly revealed in first-person novels (“Jasmine”, “The White Tiger”), where the order of changing storytellers’ names is irreversible, presenting their identity in development. In “The Namesake” the hero’s two names create a contradiction between the two identities, marked by a “pet name” and an official ethnic name.
